Jim Stone
Lead guitar,banjo
Jim has lived in the Kankakee area all of his
life. He credits his parents and four siblings
who were all musicians and taught music locally
for his inspiration. He picked up the guitar at 9
years old and began playing professionally at
12. Jim has taught music both privately and for
the Conservatory of Park Forrest. He has
played with numerous rock, county, pop and
jazz bands as well as orchestras throughout his
career. Throughout the 1960’s, he was lead
guitar with the band The Caravells which was in
part, a tour band for Chicago top 40 radio
station WLS, working with radio hosts Art
Roberts, Dick Biondi, and Clark Webber. He
also did recording work at RCA for 1950s top
40 Tony Bellus. Jim’s lead guitar was
instrumental in acquiring a second place trophy
at the Illinois State Fair, Springfield. When not
playing with Bakersfield, Jim can be found
playing banjo for a Dixiland Jazz band during
summer festival season and playing lead guitar
at his church on Sunday mornings. In January,
Jim decided to take an early retirement from his
“day job” of 30 plus years and just play music,
enjoy his family, and “smell the roses”.
